Summer Program Descriptions

AEP offers UC San Diego undergraduates the opportunity to obtain valuable research-oriented academic or professional preparation in virtually any academic major including science, math, engineering, social sciences and the arts and humanities.

Explore these program sites to learn more about student research and grad-school prep opportunities that are active over the summer:

  • CAMP


    The California Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (CAMP) in Science, Engineering and Mathematics is a statewide initiative funded by the University of California and the National Science Foundation. CAMP’s objective is to increase the quality and quantity of minority students receiving undergraduate and graduate degrees in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) at the University of California.

  • Converge Incubator

    Converge Incubator

    The Converge Incubator is a pilot program for upper division undergraduates seeking a dedicated focus on entrepreneurship. The 8-week experience includes up to 20 hours per week of programming and requires participation in designated core elements of the Summer Research Program, including orientation and a capstone presentation at the Summer Research Conference in August. All participants receive access to resources and multifaceted mentorship through The Basement.
  • The McNair Program

    The McNair Program

    A Federal TRIO program funded by the U.S. Department of Education to provide low-income, first generation college students, and students from groups underrepresented in graduate education, with doctoral study preparation.
  • TRELS Summer Research Program

    TRELS Summer Research Program

    The Triton Research & Experiential Learning Scholars (TRELS) Summer Research Program is a 10-week paid experiential learning opportunity open to undergraduates of any class standing and any major. Your research project can consist of research or creative activities in the sciences, social sciences, engineering, arts and humanities, as well as public service projects and interdisciplinary activities.

  • UC Scholars & Genentech

    UC Scholars & Genentech

    Opportunity supported by Student Affairs and AEP. Open to students interested in pursuing a Ph.D. (including joint M.D./Pd.D.) in any discipline. International students are welcome to apply.
  • Undergraduate Research Scholarships

    Undergraduate Research Scholarships

    In UC San Diego's undergraduate research scholarship (URS) program, several different scholarships are available across multiple research areas. Undergraduate students use the funds for a research project to be completed over the summer. The application period is in the fall for programs available the following summer.
