Learning Scholars (TRELS)

Sponsored by the Colleges and Academic Enrichment Programs, Triton Research & Experiential Learning Scholars (TRELS) is open to undergraduates of any class standing and any major. TRELS includes quarterly awards as well as TRELS Study Abroad and TRELS Summer Research Program.

TRELS Specific Program Objectives

Experiential Learning

Introduce students to what experiential learning looks like in their field and promote an understanding that experiential learning encompasses more than just research.


Provide students with an understanding of the collaborative processes involved in research, creative work production, and other experiential learning practices.


Increase participation in experiential learning opportunities for underrepresented and low-income students.

TRELS Quarterly Award

Triton Research and Experiential Learning Scholars (TRELS) can be awarded in Fall, Winter, and Spring. Students are awarded $1,000 for work on their project in the quarter in which they are awarded. Scholars may receive this quarterly funding for a maximum of one academic year but must re-apply each quarter.

TRELS Summer Research Program

The TRELS Summer Research Program is a 10-week paid experiential learning opportunity (June – August). Applications open in Winter 2020.

Students are awarded up to $3,000 to study abroad occurring between Spring 2020 and Winter 2021. Applications open in Winter 2020.
