COVID-19 Support for Students

Academic Enrichment Programs Spring Quarter 2020 Services

Academic Enrichment Programs (AEP) is here to serve you.  For the safety and well-being of our community of students, staff, mentors, and partners, our campus office is closed, but be assured we are continuing our Spring Quarter Research Programs, planning to host a virtual research conference and other events, and preparing for our Summer Research Program (SRP).

We are committed.  We are responsive.  And, yes, we are inspired.

Please stay safe and healthy and let us know if there is anything we can do to serve during this period.  We are here.

Spring Quarter Research Programs (FMP, TRELS, McNair)

Students in these programs should plan to participate in their research placements remotely.  If you have not already done so, please contact your faculty mentor to discuss how you can complete your assistantship even without access to campus facilities or resources.

Your program coordinators are here to support you and your mentor as you adapt your research project to this new situation.  They have already reached out to you and program mentors, so don’t be afraid to reach out to them for further support.

AEP is also exploring ways we can help students who do not have the equipment needed for remote research.  If you do not have the technological resources required for this project adjustment, please let us know confidentially, and we will do our best to provide them for you.

Research Conferences

We know how much the UC San Diego community values the opportunity to celebrate undergraduate research and that our annual conferences give the university a chance to show its support for the next generation of scholars.  Although we have had to cancel the Undergraduate Research Conference scheduled for April 18 at The Faculty Club, we are creating a new virtual format for it in combination with our Faculty Mentor Program Symposium.  We will expand this online conference to include other student researchers as well.  Check our homepage and our newsletter for updates as we formalize the format and date of this conference.

The AEP Summer Research Program (SRP)

If you have applied for the Summer Research Program, please know we are continuing to prepare for it as always.  We are reviewing applications, planning associated events (including the Summer Research Conference) and working with our partners to make sure projects can be completed remotely if necessary and that housing or a housing allowance will be provided to all participants as well as a stipend.

Don’t hesitate to ask any questions about the program in general or your specific SRP program.

Special Events

As always, we will host a special information session for students interested in applying for prestigious fellowships such as the Rhodes, Marshall, Fulbright, and others.  This year’s Spring session will be held remotely.  We will announce the details in our newsletter and on our homepage.  Also, please check for updates.

We will also host briefings on topics including writing a research proposal and presenting your research at a conference or professional meeting.  Please check the homepage and newsletter for updates.

Look for us on Triton Day and Transfer Triton Day, we will present virtual Triton Talks on undergraduate research and scholarship and other support for structured research programs and research related activities.

We will hold a Spring Conference on Research in the Arts, Social Sciences, and Humanities (CRASSH) session.  This will also be a virtual conference, but we are actively looking for ways to make it interactive.  Please check the homepage and newsletter for updates.
