David Artis, Ph.D., 'Reaches Out' Beyond Academics As New Director of Academic Enrichment Programs.  Former director of Academic Services at the University of Michigan School of Public Health, will oversee a wide range of research-oriented academic preparation programs for more than 1,500 UCSD undergraduates in various fields of study. These programs are designed to encourage such students to pursue Ph.D.'s, M.D.'s and other advanced degrees in research.

Deborah Gordon, Ed.D is proud to be part of the Academic Enrichment team. Deb has been working in student affairs for over 15 years and is an advocate in social justice issues for underepresented students. Deb recieved her Masters in Theology from Emory University in Atlanta and just completed her doctorate in Organizational Leadership. Deb lives in San Diego with her five animals and partner.

Azize-Brewer

Jacqueline Azize-Brewer: New C.A.M.P. Coordinator Sees Position as Chance to Make a Difference - Jacqueline Azize-Brewer, Ph.D., whose participation in challenging scientific research projects, faculty interaction and classroom experiences as a transfer student at the University of California, San Diego led to her earning a doctorate in neurosciences at UCSD and to her desire to assist other students towards their research and academic goals, has been named coordinator of UCSD’s California Alliance for Minority Participation in Science, Engineering and Mathematics Program (CAMP). Magda Gramada
Magda Gramada is the Coordinator of four science and engineering AEP programs, namely Amgen, CSEMS, NACME and S-STEM. She is committed to her students, both from UCSD and community colleges, whom she continues to teach at San Diego Mesa College. She had several stints in scientific research within Physical Sciences at the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology in Romania (her country of origin) and at the University of Utah, from where she earned her Masters of Science degree in Meteorology. Her name is now linked to the Smithsonian/ NASA Astrophysics Data System Tables of supercooled water vapor pressure, data used in collaborative international research teams such as the international CIRES Program, or UCAR, in the USA.

She is active in helping students from all national, economic and ethnical backgrounds achieve academic and career successes, while having a balanced life.

Elizabeth Blocker, Administrative Assistance in Academic Enrichment Program since 1994.  Worked 14 years at the Radiobiology Division, Radiology Department prior to transferring to AEP.

Thomas Brown
Thomas K. Brown, Ph.D., whose interests in research led him to earn post-baccalaureate degrees in both chemistry and anthropology, has been named the coordinator of UCSD’s Ronald E. McNair program for undergraduate research. The McNair program prepares students for graduate study in all academic fields.

Adele Wilson

Adele Wilson: Named Coordinator of UCSD Program to Prepare Undergrads for Health and Medical Professions - Adele Savage Wilson, MA, a health and career guidance specialist, has been appointed coordinator of the Health and Medical Professionals Preparation Program (HMP³) at the University of California, San Diego. The position is significant to UCSD’s mission of preparing more undergraduates for health and medical professions.

Tonya Jarrett
Program Assistant for the Amgen Scholar's Program since July 2008. Tonya has held a variety of administrative positions which include the U.S. District Court's federal probation office in Seattle, Washington, and the San Diego Workforce Partnership, locally. She has also been a theatre and music major at two universities. Tonya hopes to one day complete a BFA/MFA in either major.
